The Solution

Semiconductors instead of levers.
Protection at desk level.

Instead of one mechanical breaker per circuit: one semiconductor-based module per desk. It responds in under 10 µs instead of 10–20 ms. And it switches selectively — only the affected workstation goes offline, the rest keep running.
